Stuart hosting the FAFSA workshop

COLLINSVILLE – State Representative Katie Stuart D-Edwardsville will host a free FAFSA workshop at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13 at Collinsville High School in partnership with the Illinois Student Aid Commission (ISAC).

“Students need to know what financial resources are available and what they are entitled to,” Stuart said. “Having taught both high school and middle school students in the area, I find students oblivious or uninformed about FAFSA. Many lack the support network to guide them to resources that can ease their financial burden or open up new opportunities.

Stuart will host representatives from ISAC to help families complete the Federal Student Aid Application (FAFSA) and answer questions about the application or financial aid. The FAFSA is required for need-based and merit-based scholarships in Illinois. Stuart will also be giving an update on legislation for this session which helps students with financial planning for college.

“I believe higher education is invaluable not only to prospective students, but to the community as a whole,” continued Stuart. “Residents should face few barriers to higher education, and lack of access to financial resources should not be one of them. “
