The Alachua County, Florida School Board is advising of the development of new and amended rules and that it will be hosting a public workshop to which all individuals are invited.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The purpose is to discuss, review and receive feedback on changes and the adoption of new policies to comply with legislative changes; eliminate redundant and obsolete language. Proposed changes and/or proposed new policies include, but are not limited to, the following: requirements and prohibitions regarding board meeting notices, meetings and public participation; safety and security of staff, students, and visitors and agency and district responsibilities; charter school applications, contracts and operations; accepting gifts/grants/donations to the district; employment requirements and prohibitions of discrimination; training requirements program; safety and security and responsibility of each agency and the District. The effect is that the policies will be current, consistent and easier to find, understand and use.

In order to maintain social distancing, the number of people allowed in the boardroom may be limited. Citizens can offer input on these items in several ways: 1) submit their comments via email to [email protected] by noon on the day of the board meeting/workshop (include phrase Policies 3-2-22 in the subject line); or 2) come to the boardroom to offer in-person feedback during the meeting. The meeting may also be streamed on a video screen outside the meeting room, on the district website, and/or on the Cox 12 channel. Any person who decides to appeal a decision regarding a matter discussed at the workshop is hereby advised that for this purpose, such person may need to ensure that a record of the meeting is made, which minutes include the testimonies and evidence on which the appeal must be based.
