Louisiana artists featured in new gallery at Baton Rouge airport
BATON ROUGE – A number of dynamic artists have roots in Louisiana, and now the works of some of these innovative creators will be on display to locals and visitors alike at one of the state’s busiest airports.
Thanks to a collaboration between the Baton Rouge Gallery-Center for Contemporary Art (BRG) and the Baton Rouge Airport (BTR), the works of about two dozen people based in Louisiana will be presented in two halls of the BTR.
The partnership, known as âBRG @ BTRâ, gives travelers the opportunity to appreciate the work of accomplished living artists working in our region, just minutes after they step off the plane.
The new gallery includes works from the list of 70 professional visual artists who are BRG members. The works of art will be rotated periodically, allowing repeat visitors to new experiences and a more in-depth look at local culture.
As part of this project, the space within BTR formerly used as a smoking lounge (located in Hall B) has been completely redesigned and renovated to serve as a serene and engaging gallery space.
With seats, reading materials, and updated LED track lighting, it’s the perfect space for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the local culture or waiting to board their flight.
In addition, dozens of original works of art were also placed in the two halls of the airport. Each work is accompanied by information about the artist and an easy-to-scan QR code that allows travelers to find out more or inquire about purchasing works.
More than 50 works by Louisiana-based visual artists (including painters, printmakers, photographers and digital media artists) will be on display throughout the airport.
Travelers will have the opportunity not only to see their work, but to learn more about the artist and receive information on purchasing works presented under the program.
