Canon launches ‘Capture the action’ photography competition to encourage photographers on the continent #CelebrateAfrica

Cannon (, a pioneer of innovative imaging products, announces its latest photography competition – “Capture the Action” – for photographers coming to Africa in collaboration with Pan African Visions – one of the leading media outlets on the African continent. Through this competition, Canon provides a platform for people to showcase their talent and harness the power of visual storytelling. The contest seeks entries from photographers who highlight the highs and lows and the big and small victories of athletes and entertainers across Africa. The competition is open to African photographers aged 18 and over.

“Capture the Action” is an opportunity to illustrate the spectacular moments of athletes in action and to follow their journey. It is also a celebration of African sports stars as well as the photographers who cover them. In an effort to encourage the storytelling community, we provide a platform on social channels to showcase user-generated content via #CelebrateAfrica. Focusing on this month’s sports photography genre, Canon aims to showcase moments of athletic brilliance, triumph and glory through this contest which will run until 31st of July.

“Capture the Action” aims to showcase the stars, their performances and the fearless stories behind their rise to the top. The competition celebrates Africa’s contribution to sport and highlights sporting success stories,” said Amine Djouahra, Sales and Marketing Director, Canon Central and North Africa. “As a brand, Canon has always been at the forefront of innovation and technology. This competition embodies technological genius and superhuman performance, going beyond the realm of the possible. We look forward to seeing some amazing action captured from the continent as it hosts various international sporting events in different African countries.

The best sports photography shots submitted for this competition in July will win amazing prizes and they will be chosen by public vote and an exclusive jury selected for this competition.

Canon will award the following three prizes:

  • 1st prize – Canon EOS R5
  • 2nd prize – Canon EOS R7
