Artists take control of South Florida billboards for a good cause – NBC 6 South Florida
Calling all artists – it is possible to present your work on a larger canvas.
SaveArtSpace is bringing more art to public spaces through an open call for submissions for artwork to be featured on billboards and ad space in bus shelters across Miami.
“People haven’t moved here for the commercials,” said founder Travis Rix. “They’re here for the murals – so we took over the advertising space and put in some artwork.”
The idea is to bring works of art to public places in the city. It’s a concept artist and local curator Haiileen is helping out here in Miami after being chosen for the show last year.
“It was so cool. It was in the middle of Wynwood and everyone was sending me pictures, ”she said.
A total of nine artists will be selected from the call for applications. Each artist will receive both bus shelter and advertising space, as well as a $ 500 honorary from SaveArtSpace and the opportunity to exhibit their original works in a gallery during Miami Art Week and Art Basel.
It is open to artists of all ages, levels and backgrounds. The public art project will accept submissions until Monday, October 11, and all artwork is accepted.
